A Permanent Option in Birth Control

Have you noticed that today’s women are having fewer children today and working more? Seems like a correlation to me!

The drop, in part, is due to the fact that more and more women choose to work and have to work to support their families. We question how “thin” we can spread ourselves without cheating our own children in ways that are unacceptable.

Today, however, there are many issues, besides finance, to consider as you decide to “complete” your family.  Relationship status, elder parent caregiving responsibilities and job location all have a part to play in weighing the pro’s and con’s of having more children.

Want to learn more about a new form of contraception that will “complete” your family? Permanent contraception is likely a topic you should be exploring with either or both your partner and your healthcare professional as it has such a great impact on your future quality of life, and wellbeing.

Interestingly, new research commissioned in September 2011 by HealthyWomen, showed that most women are not bringing up the topic of permanent contraception with their healthcare professional, even though most women think they’d have a better chance at winning the lottery than having their husband follow through on a vasectomy.  While that may not be surprising, it shows that women indeed need another permanent birth control option besides invasive surgery – or – getting your “tubes tied”.

Kelley Connors, MPH, Co-host of Real Women on Heath will talk about new research around “having the conversation” with Dr. Cindy Basinski, M.D., Ob/Gyn. Dr. Basinski will also share information about a non-invasive option for women in permanent contraception that is definitely “not your mother’s contraception” and can be performed in a physician’s office, without the need for general anesthesia.

To listen in or join the informative conversation on Wednesday, October 12th, please go to our Real Women on Health on-line radio show page here, or dial 1-646-929-2625 on Wednesday, October 12th at 12:30 pm EST.
